Happy Birthday to Me (and Holland!)

My hearts, it’s my birthday! 🎉

Today, I turn 43—and my debut novel, Holland, My Heart, turns 3. She and I share a birthday (October 4), which feels absolutely right since publishing her changed my life. That book was the spark that made Jennifer J. Coldwater real—a name, a voice, and a purpose that’s equal parts queer, spiritual, and full of heart.

When I look back at who I was in 2022—exhausted, grieving, terrified, and still writing anyway—I just want to hug her. She didn’t know that pressing “publish” would lead to book signings, giveaways, audio releases, and a growing circle of readers who remind me every day that love does win.

So today, I’m celebrating both our birthdays with gratitude and—let’s be honest—cake for dinner.
