Meet Megan Michelle
Megan Michelle is an Indieverse Awards nominee I can’t wait for you to meet, my hearts. She writes dark romance for the fearless women who are ready to reclaim their power and confront the shadows of their past. Her stories blend the raw emotions of military life, the strength of feminism, and the passion of forbidden love, all while guiding readers on a journey of self-discovery and healing. Through dark romance, she explores the complexity of love, power, and identity. Her stories invite you to dive deep into the hearts of women who don’t just survive—they thrive, reclaiming their power and rewriting their stories on their own terms.

Megan’s Skylark, the first book in her SEAL Saga, is nominated for Best of Romance 2025, and I’m on a mission to interview all the authors nominated in this category each year.
JEN: Thanks for this interview, Megan. So nice to meet you! What genres make your heart race—whether you’re writing or reading?
MEGAN: Romance, action adventure, spy-thrillers.
JEN: Which authors light you up? Whose books do you drop everything for?
MEGAN: Kristen Hannah, Brynne Asher, Stacey Reynolds.
JEN: Let’s talk creative rituals. What do you need within reach when you’re deep in the zone?
MEGAN: Tortilla chips and red wine.
JEN: Ha! I can relate to that. Where’s home?
MEGAN: I’m currently living in Virginia Beach. Most of the town is military, so it really helps with book research.
JEN: Give us a peek at your playlist—what kind of music fuels your writing sessions?
MEGAN: Taylor Swift, Five Finger Death Punch—a very eclectic mix. I tend to write with music and have playlists for each character and certain songs that transport me to certain scenes.
JEN: What are the stories you feel called to tell? And what made you choose the indie path?
MEGAN: Mental health, feminism, grief. These are the issues that resonate with me most and I'm most familiar with. I realized if I traditionally published I'd still have to do marketing (which is awful) while also losing creative control and half my royalties.
JEN: What’s your relationship with creativity—does it leave you buzzing or wrung out (or both)?
MEGAN: Creating energizes me. If I go a day without writing or re-reading something I've written I genuinely miss my characters, like going a day without checking in with your best friends.
JEN: Tell me about a moment when a reader’s words stopped you in your tracks—something that reminded you why you write.
MEGAN: A girl in the Army read part of my book and by chapter 3 she asked, "How did you know my exact experience of being a woman in the military? How were you able to put my thoughts and feelings into words when we've never talked about it? Spot on!"
JEN: Ooh, that’s such a gem. Thank you for sharing. Tell us what’s next!
MEGAN: Book 2 in the series—Born in Blood—will be released sometime this year.
JEN: Where can we grab your books? And how do we get our hands on those fancy editions I keep hearing about?
MEGAN: Amazon—but if you want special editions with gold foil and sprayed edges, head to my website megan-michelle.com.
My hearts, I hope you’ll connect with Megan on @megan_michelle_storytelling (Insta + Threads), and on her website. Go support her work, check out Skylark, and mark your calendars for the Indieverse Awards. Voting runs Nov. 7–10, 2025—don’t miss your chance to show some love!
Are you a human author? A human who narrates audiobooks? A human who designs book covers? Or a human who does PR and promotion for other authors? I'd love to interview you, too. Let me know when you’re ready!
