Meet Lexy Dalton
My hearts, today I get to introduce you to someone whose creativity refuses to fit into just one lane. Meet Lexy Dalton—a narrator, voice actor, audiobook producer, and founder of Definitely Not Your Problem (DNYP) Author Services. If you’ve laughed at a bookish meme, listened to a captivating indie audiobook, or needed sharp, witty promo graphics, chances are Lexy’s fingerprints are already on your world. She’s nominated for not one but two Indieverse Awards in 2025, and she’s only just getting started.
JEN: Hi Lexy! Welcome. What’s your role in the indie book world?
LEXY: I wear a lot of hats! I’m a narrator/voice actor, audiobook and podcast editor/producer, and I also run DNYP Author Services—where I create graphics, promo materials, and memes for authors.
JEN: Speaking of DNYP… tell me the origin story.
LEXY: I originally launched @definitelynotsmut to share my unhinged romance memes. I loved making graphics to showcase the books I was reading, quotes I loved, and indie authors who deserved the spotlight. Some early favorites were Kate Raven bingo cards, “MMCs to go with your go-to gas station purchase,” and recs based on your favorite Angel character.
That grew into making promo graphics for author friends, which became DNYP Author Services. And then—kind of full circle for me—voice acting, which was a lifelong dream, fell into place when one of my favorite authors, Kate Raven, asked me to narrate The Catcher.
JEN: That’s huge—and now you’re an Indieverse Awards nominee! Tell us more.
LEXY: I’m nominated for two 2025 Indieverse Awards! My meme/author services account (@dnyp.author.services, formerly @definitelynotsmut) is up for Favorite Bookstagrammer to Support. And I’m also nominated for Most Immersive Narration for the audiobook of The Catcher by Kate Raven.
JEN: Congratulations! What’s next for you in narration?
LEXY: Right now I’m narrating Katie Landry’s Dirty Rotten Cheating Husband (coming fall 2025) and producing my extraordinarily talented friend Dana Sweeney’s audiobooks.
JEN: Dana is a friend and I am a huge fan. I’ve been listening to an ALC of Lust for Tomorrow—she’s so talented! Who are your favorite authors and influences?
LEXY: Dana Sweeney, Kate Raven, and Nenia Campbell are three of my all-time faves—and close friends now, which still feels wild. Other romance authors I love: Kimberly Lemming, Kennedy Ryan, Lisa Kleypas, and S.T. Abby (her Mindf*ck series forever changed me).
I also admire so many creators in our space:
Odette Locke – brilliant illustrator, hilarious Meme Mondays.
Keri Lane – unparalleled wit; her books are hilarious and emotionally devastating.
Reading For Pleasure Podcast – Kim & Sarah nail representation in romance with humor and insight.
Mary Elizabeth Graves – her monster romance memes are life.
Spill the Spice Podcast – Veronica & Lizzy bring healing + spice in the best ways.
And finally—Dana Sweeney again. She’s my best friend, muse, and role model. I’m endlessly inspired by her meticulous, subversive, and romantic writing.
JEN: Let’s talk about your process. What does a recording day look like?
LEXY: Snacks and hydration are essential. Green apple slices help reduce mouth sounds, plus lots of water and tea (Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat is my go-to). Dry roasted almonds and oatmeal are also great recording fuel.
JEN: Oh, I forgot about Throat Coat—it’s good for schoolteachers, too. And when you’re not recording?
LEXY: I’m kind of a gym rat, honestly. On weekends you’ll find me playing Minecraft or Borderlands II with my husband, or watching scary movies with friends.
JEN: Lexy, this was such a joy—thank you for pulling back the curtain on your work and letting us see all the layers of what you do.
My hearts, if you’re not already following Lexy, get on it: memes, narration, author services—she’s shaping indie romance culture from every angle. @dnyp.author.services and @lexydalton.narrator
Are you a human author? A human who narrates audiobooks? A human who designs book covers? Or a human who does PR and promotion for other authors? I'd love to interview you, too. Let me know when you’re ready!
