Meet Katrina Cappelli

My hearts, please meet Katrina Cappelli. Katrina has loved writing ever since she was in high school. After a long time of trying to find her path, she made her way back to writing and is now using her skills to craft romance novels. When she’s not writing, she’s spending time with her dog Pilot, reading, or watching the latest movies and TV shows.

JEN: Let’s start with the essentials. What’s your favorite genre—both to read and to write?

KATRINA: I read a pretty wide range of things but everything I read needs to have romance in it. I’ll read fantasy romance, have dabbled in monster romance, but most of what I read is contemporary romance. As for writing, I only write contemporary romance. I just am not equipped to do the world building needed for fantasy.

JEN: Me neither!
Romance queens tend to have impeccable taste, so I have to ask: who are your favorite authors?

KATRINA: I have so many authors that I love but my auto-buy are Sarah J. Maas, Elsie Silver, and Ali Hazelwood.

JEN: What’s usually playing in the background when you’re working?

KATRINA: I know a lot of people can’t write with music with lyrics but my favorite thing to listen to while writing is Taylor Swift. The storytelling in her music inspires me so much. ‘Tis the Damn Season was part of the inspiration for Chasing Happiness and New Year’s Day helped inspire Midnights. I also really like Sabrina Carpenter and some songs on her Man’s Best Friend album are helping with inspiration for my latest work.

JEN: Where are you from, and where do you call home now? How does place—past or present—show up in your work?

KATRINA: I am from a small town in Northern Ontario, Canada but moved more south for university and still live there now. I haven’t written anything set close to home yet but my latest release is set in Canada and I really want to write more because I always love picking up a book set in Canada.

JEN: Publishing paths can look wildly different. How do you publish your work, and what led you there?

KATRINA: I am completely self-published. I even design my own covers.

JEN: Me too! I love an origin story. Who—or what—first nudged you into creating, and how did you find your way to romance novels?

KATRINA: I started out screenwriting, at first as a hobby, but started taking it seriously when I took some time off work. However, you have to convince someone to make your movie but you can self-publish books and get your story to readers exactly the way you want to.

JEN: Let’s talk books! Give us the highlights—what have you released so far?

KATRINA: I currently have four books out now. Stars & Margaritas, a stand-alone with a love triangle and a bunch of family drama. Midnights and Lavender Haze Sunrise, which are Books 1 and 2 of the Time Won’t Fly series. It’s a time travel romance series that follows the same characters for the whole series so it is best read in order. Chasing Happiness is my newest release and is Book 1 in the Cowboy Storm Chasers series. It is going to be a series of interconnected standalones that follow all the members of the storm chasing crew. Book 1 is a second chance romance.

JEN: And what’s next?

KATRINA: I'm currently working on Book 3 in the Time Won't Fly series

JEN: Finally—what advice would you give aspiring creators… or your younger self?

KATRINA: Don't worry about what other people expect you to do. Do what makes you happy.

My hearts, I love how grounded and clear Katrina’s creative compass is—joy first, expectations be damned. Keep an eye on her work on Insta and TikTok: @katrinac.writes

Are you a human author? A human who narrates audiobooks? A human who designs book covers? Or a human who does PR and promotion for other authors? I'd love to interview you, too. Let me know when you’re ready!
